The atmosphere here in the Philippines is so different. The people are different the places are very unique and I can’t help but appreciate all of the “when I was a kid, I….” stories that my parents constantly tell me every time we pass by some place they remember.
Today we went to visit my grandma in Paco. She still lives in the same house that my Dad grew up in, so coming back to the house is very special to me. There is a little piece of history in every piece of furniture, in every corner, and its just cool being there again. After waiting a while, my grandma finally came home and I was so happy. I can still remember all the good times I had with her when I was younger, and because she raised me, its always such a great feeling to see her again after a long time. We went out to eat afterwards at Max’s and we had a traditional filipino meal of Kare-Kare, Pinakbit, and Krispy Pata, with Sagot Gulaman. Kare-Kare is like stewed vegetables and beef with a special peanut sauce, Pinakbit is more or less, a combo of slow cooked string beans, and a lot of other vegetables and Krispy Pata is deep fried pork leg. Yes, it sounds weird, but it is very good. You’ll just have to take my word for it.
After lunch, we headed over to my grandpa’s house. Meeting him was a different experience. I never really got to know him, and the fact that he only knows how to speak chinese makes it even harder to converse with him. However, I was happy that my Dad and grandpa got to see each other. They haven’t seen each other in almost ten years now, and I’m pretty sure it was a pretty awesome experience for my Dad. Today won’t be the last time we see each other.
So, by the time we finished visiting each other, it was around five o’ clock, so what else could we do but go to the mall. We walked around for a while at Greenbelt Mall, before meeting up with some of my cousins at Cibo’s for dinner where we had Italian. More good food.
Anyways, by the time we finished dinner and window shopping a little, I was beat. I haven’t adjusted quite yet, so my eyelids were super heavy and I fell asleep on the way home. Well, so far, I’m enjoying my vacation a lot, and I really hope that it only gets better from here.
